28 May is a central interchange station on Lines 1 and 2 of the Baku Metro, located in the heart of the city. It takes its name from 28 May 1918, the date Azerbaijan declared independence as one of the first democratic republics in the Muslim world — a short-lived state that nonetheless left a lasting mark on national identity. Built in Soviet-era style, it remains one of the busiest transfer points in the Baku metro network.
