Abtei zur Hl. Maria

The Benedictine Abbey of the Blessed Virgin Mary stands at Nonnengasse 16 in the heart of Fulda, founded in 1626 as a convent for Benedictine nuns. The complex, built in the International Gothic style, is listed as a protected cultural monument under Hessian heritage law. Despite the religious and political upheavals of the early modern period, the community maintained an unbroken presence in the city center across nearly four centuries. Visitors can access the abbey's Klosterladen, a small convent shop selling goods produced by the sisters — a quiet counterpoint to the surrounding city bustle.
