Basilica of the Assumption of Our Lady
The Roman Catholic Basilica of the Assumption of Our Lady is a Gothic church dating to the 14th century, part of a monastery complex founded in 1323. Built shortly after the monastery's establishment, it ranks among the region's earliest Gothic ecclesiastical buildings. In 1987, the Vatican elevated it to the status of Basilica minor, a designation that confers special liturgical privileges and a formal bond to the Holy See. The entire complex is protected as part of a national cultural monument of the Czech Republic. Visitors encounter a largely unaltered medieval interior characterized by Gothic vaulting and the contemplative stillness of an active monastic setting.
