Alkoven is a small municipality in the Eferding district of Upper Austria, situated roughly 20 kilometres west of Linz in the Hausruckviertel region. With around 6,170 inhabitants it is a quiet rural community, best known for Schloss Hartheim — a former care home repurposed during World War II as a National Socialist euthanasia killing facility and now maintained as a memorial and educational site. The town itself has limited independent tourism infrastructure; the castle memorial is the primary destination for visitors.
