Allwetterzoo Münster is a park-style zoo in the west of Münster, opened in 1974, whose name references a distinctive architectural feature: covered 'all-weather walkways' connect most of the animal houses, allowing visitors to move through large parts of the grounds without getting wet — a rare design choice among German zoos. The concept was a deliberate response to Westphalia's reliably rainy climate. Today the zoo houses a wide range of species with an emphasis on conservation and environmental education. Its spacious, green layout makes it a popular outing for families, and it is easily reached from central Münster by bike or public transport.
