Área de Protección de Flora y Fauna La Primavera

Bosque La Primavera is a protected flora and fauna reserve of roughly 30,000 hectares on the western edge of Guadalajara, serving as the primary green lung of the greater Jalisco metropolitan area. First declared a protected zone in 1934 and formally designated a federal Área de Protección de Flora y Fauna in 1980 under President José López Portillo, the forest sits atop volcanic terrain of the Sierra Madre Occidental and shelters a wide range of endemic plant and animal species. Spanning the municipalities of Zapopan, Tala, and Tlajomulco de Zúñiga, it ranks among the largest urban-fringe nature reserves in Latin America. Marked hiking trails, mountain-biking routes, and picnic areas draw families and outdoor enthusiasts from across the city, particularly on weekends.
