Armstrong Mountain

Armstrong Mountain is the 22nd-highest of the Adirondack High Peaks in upstate New York, topping out at 4,400 feet (1,340 m) in the Great Range within Essex County. It is named for Thomas Armstrong, a 19th-century lumberman from Plattsburgh who operated in the region. The peak is typically approached via the Great Range Trail and is commonly linked with Upper Wolf Jaw and Gothics in a demanding multi-summit traverse. The ascent moves through dense northern hardwood and boreal forest before breaking into open subalpine terrain near the top, where clear days reward with sweeping views of the surrounding High Peaks. Armstrong is one of the 46 official Adirondack High Peaks, a list that draws dedicated peak-baggers from across the northeastern United States.
