Former Scout hostel and tribute to the founder of the Scouting movement

Baden-Powell House in South Kensington was built as a tribute to Robert Baden-Powell, founder of the worldwide Scouting movement. For decades it served as an affordable hostel for Scouts visiting London from around the globe — a kind of international Scout lodge in the heart of the city. The building once housed a small permanent exhibition of Baden-Powell's personal effects, including his famous portrait by David Jagger. After a renovation, the museum space was converted into conference rooms and the exhibits moved to Gilwell Park. Today officially known as Queen's Gate House, it operates as a conference and events venue.
