Gōra Station

Gōra Station is the mountain terminus of the Hakone Tozan Tetsudō, a switchback railway that has climbed through the forested slopes of the Hakone volcanic range since 1919. Opened during Japan's Taishō era — a period of rapid modernization and growing leisure travel — it was the railway's key role in opening the Hakone highlands to visitors from Tokyo and Yokohama. Here passengers transfer to a funicular up to Sōunzan and then to the Hakone Ropeway, which continues across the active volcanic crater zone of Ōwakudani. The station today serves as the main gateway for hikers, onsen resort stays, and exploration of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park.
