Banqueting House

Also known as: Banqueting House, Whitehall

Banqueting House on Whitehall, built by Inigo Jones between 1619 and 1622, is London's oldest classical building — the first structure in England completed in the Palladian style. It is also the only surviving large part of Whitehall Palace, which burned down in 1698. History makes it singular: on 30 January 1649, King Charles I was publicly executed in front of its facade. Today it is managed by Historic Royal Palaces.
