Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe

Also known as: Nueva Basílica de Guadalupe

The Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe on the Hill of Tepeyac is the most-visited Catholic pilgrimage site in the world — over 20 million pilgrims arrive annually to venerate the Tilma of Juan Diego, the cloak on which the Virgin Mary reportedly appeared miraculously in 1531. Mexico's national Catholic shrine and the spiritual heart of Latin American Catholicism, the modern 1974 basilica was built to accommodate the extraordinary crowds that arrive year-round.
