The onion-domed icon of Red Square: Ivan the Terrible commissioned this masterpiece in 1561 to celebrate his conquest of Kazan. Nine chapels surround the central tower, each dedicated to a saint from the campaign days. The holy fool Basil the Blessed is buried here, giving the church its beloved popular name.
