Basilique Saint-Martin
The Basilique Saint-Martin is a Gothic collegiate church perched on the Publémont hill in Liège, dedicated to Saint Martin of Tours. Founded in the early Middle Ages, it was converted into a parish church in 1795 following suppression during the French Revolution. Its reputation as a pilgrimage site centred on the Blessed Sacrament led Pope Leo XIII to grant it the rank of Basilica minor on 9 May 1886 — a title reserved for churches of exceptional liturgical or historical significance. The building has been protected as a Walloon heritage monument since 1936. Visitors find a quietly preserved Gothic interior where a living sacramental devotion continues to shape the parish's liturgical calendar.
