Basta

Basta is a prehistoric site in southern Jordan occupied roughly 9,000 years ago, placing it among the earliest farming communities yet documented in the Levant. The settlement belongs to the Pre-Pottery Neolithic B (PPNB) cultural horizon, the same era and tradition as the nearby site of Ba'ja, and its architectural remains suggest a densely and collectively organized village layout unusual for its time. Finds of obsidian and other non-local materials reveal long-distance trade networks already active in this remote period. The site has been archaeologically excavated but remains largely undeveloped for visitors — its significance unfolds through context rather than infrastructure.
