Battleship USS Alabama

The USS Alabama is a South Dakota-class battleship launched in February 1942 at Norfolk Navy Yard and now permanently moored at Battleship Memorial Park in Mobile as a museum ship since 1965. During World War II she served in both the North Atlantic and the Pacific, earning nine battle stars while never losing a single crew member to enemy action — a record that cemented her nickname 'Mighty A.' Visitors can walk the full length of the vessel, exploring the massive 16-inch gun turrets on the main deck and descending through narrow ladders into crew quarters, the combat information center, and engine rooms below the waterline. The surrounding park adds a submarine, vintage aircraft, and artillery pieces, making it one of the Gulf Coast's most comprehensive open-air military history sites.
