Bażyński Oak

The Bażyński Oak is a protected pedunculate oak (Quercus robur) standing in the village of Kadyny on the shores of the Vistula Lagoon in the Warmia-Masuria region of northeastern Poland. Officially designated a natural monument, it takes its name from the Bażyński (German: Baysen) noble family, a powerful force in 15th-century Prussia who helped found the Prussian Confederation against the Teutonic Order. The village of Kadyny itself later became a favored imperial estate of Kaiser Wilhelm II, adding a second layer of historical character to the area. The oak stands quietly in a rural landscape near the lagoon shore, with little infrastructure around it — best visited as part of a walk through the historic Kadyny estate grounds.
