Ben Ezra Synagogue

Also known as: El-Geniza Synagogue, Synagogue of the Levantines, Synagogue of the Palestinians

In the genizah - the attic archive - of this synagogue, 280,000 medieval manuscript fragments were discovered in the late 19th century, revolutionising our knowledge of Jewish life in the medieval Mediterranean. Local tradition also holds that baby Moses was rescued from the reed basket at this very spot.
