Benediktinerabtei St. Mauritius
Tholey Abbey in the Saarland is among the oldest monastic foundations on German soil, first documented in 634 AD during the early Frankish Christianization of the region. A Benedictine monastery within the Diocese of Trier, it belongs to the Beuronese Congregation and structures daily life around the Rule of Saint Benedict — prayer, work, and a liturgy rooted in Gregorian chant. Its Latin motto, "fides cum benignitate" (faith with kindness), reflects the community's ethos. Designated a cultural monument of the Saarland, the abbey is open to visitors, with full wheelchair access. The grounds offer a working monastic community, a contemplative cloister garden, and a monastery shop selling goods produced by the monks.
