Bethaus

The Baptist prayer house in Jever, built in 1858 on Elisabethufer in the St. Annen-Vorstadt district, is one of the oldest surviving Baptist places of worship in Germany. In the 19th century, Baptist congregations faced persecution across much of Germany, making the construction of a dedicated building this early a notable marker of the relative tolerance exercised in the Lordship of Jever at the time. Understated in appearance and set away from the historic town center, the brick building still serves its congregation for regular worship today.
