Bismarck-Denkmal

The Bismarck Memorial in the Hausen district of Bad Kissingen holds an unusual distinction: erected in 1877, it is the very first monument dedicated to Chancellor Otto von Bismarck — built while he was still alive. The choice of location was deliberate; Bismarck took the cure at Bad Kissingen no fewer than 14 times between 1876 and 1893, making him the spa town's most prominent regular guest. The memorial reflects both the personality cult surrounding Bismarck in the early Kaiserreich and the role of 19th-century spa resorts as stages for political society. It is a listed Bavarian monument and fully wheelchair-accessible.
