Bornean Orangutans

This exhibit features Bornean orangutans, one of three recognized orangutan species and the only great ape endemic to the island of Borneo. Listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List, their wild population has declined by more than half over the past six decades due to deforestation and habitat loss. Visitors can observe the animals' characteristic arboreal behavior up close, and the exhibit provides context on international conservation programs working to protect the species.
