ASB Bridge

The ASB Bridge is a single-track steel through-truss lift bridge spanning the Missouri River between North Kansas City and Kansas City, Missouri. Completed in 1911 to designs by engineer J. A. L. Waddell, it was jointly commissioned by Armour & Company, Swift & Company, and the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad. Originally a double-deck structure — four lanes of road traffic on the upper level, two rail tracks below — it served as the first road crossing over the Missouri at Kansas City until a neighboring bridge opened. Today it carries rail traffic only, and its engineering legacy is recognized with a designation as a Historic Civil Engineering Landmark.
