Briek Schotte

This monument in Roubaix commemorates Albéric 'Briek' Schotte, one of the last great Flemish classics riders of the 20th century. Schotte won Paris-Roubaix twice, in 1948 and 1950, and embodied the gritty, hard-man tradition of cobblestone racing in postwar professional cycling. Roubaix, as the finish city of the 'Hell of the North', is a fitting location for a tribute that draws cycling pilgrims from across Europe.
