Basilique Notre-Dame de Tongre

The Basilica of Our Lady of Tongre is a Roman Catholic pilgrimage church in Tongre-Notre-Dame, Hainaut Province, Belgium, holding the rank of basilica minor. Marian veneration at this site is documented as far back as 1081, making it one of the oldest Marian shrines in the region. The current baroque church dates from 1777, erected on the foundations of a 13th-century Gothic predecessor whose structural remnants are partly incorporated. The interior preserves a sequence of baroque altars and votive offerings that chart nine centuries of pilgrimage devotion. The church continues to draw faithful from across the Diocese of Tournai to this day.
