Buhlbachsee

Buhlbachsee is a glacial cirque lake tucked into the dense fir and spruce forest of the northern Black Forest near Baiersbronn in Baden-Württemberg. Its bowl-shaped basin was carved by glaciers during the last Ice Age, making it a rare geological remnant in the region. Since January 2014 the lake has fallen within the boundaries of the Black Forest National Park, granting it strict protection and keeping the surrounding landscape largely free from human intervention. A quiet shoreline trail allows a peaceful circuit of the lake, where black woodpeckers and fire salamanders are occasional sightings. Swimming is not permitted, but the boggy waterside vegetation and forest solitude make it a rewarding destination for hikers and nature observers along the Schwarzwaldhochstrasse.
