Altes Schloss
Strasbourg
The ruins of Alt-Eberstein castle sit on a hilltop spur directly above the Baden-Baden district of Ebersteinburg and represent the ancestral seat of the Counts of Eberstein. The spur castle was likely built in the 11th or 12th century and served as the origin point of the Eberstein county until the family relocated to nearby Neu-Eberstein castle in the 13th century, leaving Alt-Eberstein to fall into disrepair. Surviving masonry and foundation traces still sketch the outline of the medieval layout. The elevated position rewards visitors with open views across the Murg valley and the northern Black Forest foothills, with walking trails connecting the ruins to Ebersteinburg below.
