Haut-Barr Castle
Strasbourg
Château de Kintzheim is the ruin of a medieval spur castle built around 1300, perched on a rocky outcrop in the Alsatian Vosges above the village of Kintzheim in the Bas-Rhin département. Classified as a historic monument by France, the castle once commanded the Alsatian wine route and surrounding settlements, serving as a seat of regional noble power during the Middle Ages. Today the surviving walls and crumbling keep still convey the original defensive architecture, while the elevated position affords open views across the Rhine plain and vineyard-covered slopes below. Forest hiking trails through the Vosges connect directly to the site.
