Burgauenbach

The Burgauenbach is an artificially created side branch of the Weisse Elster in northwestern Leipzig, dug between 1997 and 1999 as part of a riparian forest restoration project. It runs through the Burgaue nature reserve and was intended to bring some dynamics back to a previously straightened river system. For walkers and cyclists it offers a quiet patch of urban nature that feels more like a meadow stream than a city waterway.
