Burgplatz

Burgplatz in the southwest of central Leipzig is a rectangular square of just over 2000 square meters, marking the site of the former Pleissenburg fortress. Until the 19th century the Electoral Saxon stronghold stood here; in 1899 it was replaced by the New Town Hall, whose tower incorporates remnants of the original Pleissenburg keep. Today the square is a quiet link between the town hall, Burgstrasse, and Petersstrasse, with cafe terraces in summer.
