Camden Davidet
Also known as: Camden Lock Market, Camden Lock, Camden markets
Camden Market is a cluster of markets around Camden High Street and the Regent's Canal that draws roughly half a million visitors a week. It started in 1974 as a small craft market in the yard of a former horse hospital near Camden Lock, in the stables and ramps that still shape the layout. During the 1980s the market became a focal point of the British punk and goth scene, and it stayed musically present through the Britpop years. Today around thirty street-food kitchens, vintage shops in railway tunnels and designer pods in the converted Stables sit side by side. The canal bridge and quay walls have turned into informal stages for buskers.
