Chenghuang Temple

The Chenghuang Temple in Suzhou is a Taoist place of worship dedicated to the City God — the Chenghuang — one of the central protective deities of Chinese folk religion. City God temples were traditionally built in every major Chinese city, as the deity was understood to serve as a celestial magistrate governing both the living and the dead. The temple remains an active site of worship where incense, oracle sticks, and ritual offerings are everyday practice.
