Chiesa di San Michele Arcangelo
Vatican City
Modern titular diaconate church in the suburb of Acilia Sud, consecrated 2002
The church of San Pier Damiani ai Monti di San Paolo stands in the south-western suburb of Acilia Sud in Rome and was consecrated in 2002. It is dedicated to the medieval church reformer Peter Damian, an 11th-century cardinal and Doctor of the Church who championed stricter monastic discipline. The building combines its role as a parish church with the canonical status of a titular diaconate – an honorary link to a cardinal of the Roman Curia. Architecturally it belongs to the wave of modern Roman community churches that have shaped the city periphery since the 1980s.
