Chor Minar

Chor Minar is a free-standing round tower in southern Delhi, probably from the Tughluq period or the early Mughal era. Its actual purpose remains unclear: the niches set into its outer walls echo descriptions of gruesome skull-towers found in Central Asian sources, but nothing is confirmed. The tower stands rather inconspicuously among residential buildings in the Hauz Khas area and is listed by the Archaeological Survey of India as a Monument of Importance. Visitors find a small, quiet site off the usual Delhi circuit, with open questions rather than tidy answers.
