Seoul street and neighborhood that served for decades as the heart of the Korean film industry — South Korea's Hollywood, even if the studios have since moved on.

Chungmuro is a street and neighborhood in Seoul's Jung-gu district, regarded since the 1960s as the heart of the Korean film industry — South Korea's Hollywood. The area hosted the country's first film studios and production companies, and Dansungsa, Korea's first cinema, was also located here. Over time the industry shifted to Gangnam and later Busan, but the name Chungmuro has remained synonymous with Korean film in everyday speech. The neighborhood is named after the honorary title of national hero Admiral Yi Sun-shin, reflecting its place in Korean cultural history.
