River through northern Bucharest with a chain of dammed city park lakes
The Colentina is a river in southern Romania that rises in the foothills of the Southern Carpathians and flows for about 101 kilometres before joining the Dambovita. On its course through the northern districts of Bucharest, the river has formed a chain of dammed lakes – including Lake Floreasca, Lake Herastrau, and Lake Tei – which are popular recreation areas for the city's residents. Today these lakes are flanked by parks and promenades and define the green face of northern Bucharest. The Colentina is less a river to look at than a living corridor running through the city.
