Memorial to Jewish Citizens

A modest commemorative stone at the western end of Parthenstrasse in Leipzig, beside the Parthe flood ditch. It marks the spot where Leipzig's Jewish residents were rounded up after the November Pogrom of 1938 and marched to the main station for deportation to the camps. Before 1933 around 13,000 Jews lived in Leipzig, many of Eastern European origin, who had made the city one of Europe's major centers of the Jewish fur trade. Only a few hundred survived. The stone belongs to a network of small, easily missed markers scattered across the city. Walkers along the ditch usually pass it by chance.
