Felipe Ángeles International Airport

Also known as: NLU, Santa Lucia Airport, MMSM · +2

Greater Mexico City
  • Military Airfield

Felipe Ángeles International Airport sits in the municipality of Zumpango, about 40 km northeast of Mexico City's centre, and opened to civilian traffic in 2022. It was built on the grounds of the Mexican Air Force's Base Aérea n.º 1 Santa Lucía, which continues to operate alongside the civilian terminal — an unusual dual-use arrangement. The airport is named after Felipe Ángeles, a general of the Mexican Revolution and one of Pancho Villa's closest commanders. Conceived as a second major hub to relieve the congested Mexico City airport, it has so far struggled with modest passenger numbers and the considerable distance from the urban core.
