Gesù Buon Pastore alla Montagnola

Gesu Buon Pastore alla Montagnola is a Roman Catholic parish church completed in 1950 in the Ardeatino quarter, about five kilometres south of central Rome. It also holds the rank of cardinal-deacon's titular church, a function rooted in late-antique Rome's system of church administration. Architecturally it is a typical product of Italian post-war modernism: a sober brick building with bright interior surfaces and a slim free-standing campanile rising above the surrounding apartment blocks. The neighborhood itself was laid out in the 1930s and 40s for clerks and workers; the church was part of that urban planning. Tourists rarely find their way here; those who do experience everyday Roman parish life and architecture that has nothing to do with the baroque stereotype.
