Jurong Bird Park

Jurong Bird Park in Singapore was a 20-hectare aviary park on the western slope of Jurong Hill, opened in 1971 after finance minister Goh Keng Swee returned impressed from a Rio de Janeiro aviary. Its famed Waterfall Aviary, with a 35-metre manmade cascade and over 600 free-flying birds, was for decades the world's largest walk-in aviary. More than 5,000 birds from 400 species lived here, from red-crowned cranes to Antarctic penguins. On 3 January 2023, after 52 years and roughly 40 million visitors, the park closed; the birds moved to the new Bird Paradise inside Mandai Wildlife Reserve next to Singapore Zoo.
