The Docks - City of Fashion and Design

Les Docks is a long building on the Quai d'Austerlitz in the 13th arrondissement that combines a 1907 Paris harbour warehouse with a signature green-glass high-tech shell by architects Jakob + MacFarlane. The original Magasins generaux concrete skeleton was stripped bare and wrapped in branching polygonal structures that appear to flow between river and city. Opened in 2010 after years of delay, it houses the Institut francais de la mode, cafes, exhibition spaces, and in summer the popular rooftop bar Le Wanderlust. The freely accessible rooftop terrace overlooking the Seine is worth a late-afternoon detour even without entering the galleries.
