Lyceum Theatre

The Lyceum Theatre on Wellington Street in London's West End is one of the city's most storied playhouses. The current building, with its classical portico, dates from 1834 and carries Grade II* listed status. The house earned its fame under Henry Irving, who ran it from 1878 to 1902 with Ellen Terry as leading lady and Bram Stoker as business manager, turning Shakespeare into grand spectacle. After years as a dance hall and a brush with demolition, it was fully restored in 1996 and has since become a flagship West End musical venue. Disney's The Lion King has run here since 1999, its puppet-led opening number stopping even theatre cynics in their tracks. Wellington Street outside puts you a short walk from Covent Garden and the Strand.
