Mihrimah Sultan Mosque

The Mihrimah Sultan Mosque on Iskele Square in Ueskuedar was built between 1543 and 1548 by court architect Mimar Sinan for Mihrimah Sultan, daughter of Suleiman the Magnificent and wife of Grand Vizier Ruestem Pasha. It was among Sinan's first Istanbul commissions and is considered an early masterwork. Standing right beside the ferry pier, it is also called the Iskele Mosque. Distinctive features are the open porch with a double row of columns and the two slender minarets. Its prominent silhouette above the Bosphorus has made it a landmark of Ueskuedar. Visitors reach it seconds from the ferry terminal and find the busy Iskele Square with the Ahmet III fountain opposite.
