Musée de l'Homme

The Musee de l'Homme in the west wing of the Palais de Chaillot was opened in 1937 by Paul Rivet for the Paris World's Fair and conceived as a research and teaching museum on human evolution and cultural diversity. During the war several of its researchers founded the Reseau du Musee de l'Homme, one of the first French resistance networks against the German occupation. Reopened in 2015 after a six-year renovation, the Galerie de l'Homme traces the origins of language, art and society. Original skulls of Cro-Magnon and Neanderthal humans are among the key exhibits. From the terrace above the Trocadero gardens visitors look straight across to the Eiffel Tower.
