Museum of Immigration and Diversity

The Museum of Immigration and Diversity occupies a fragile house at 19 Princelet Street in Spitalfields, London's historic East End immigrant quarter. Built around 1719 by French Huguenot silk weavers, the narrow building later concealed an Ashkenazi synagogue tucked into the back garden as an extension. Today the house itself tells the story of successive migrant waves: Huguenots, Irish, Eastern European Jews, and Bangladeshi families. Because of its fragile condition, this Grade-II*-listed building opens only on a handful of days each year or for school groups, making a visit a quiet, almost melancholic encounter with London's layered diversity.
