Tournelle Bridge

The Pont de la Tournelle links the Ile Saint-Louis in the 4th arrondissement with the Quai de la Tournelle in the 5th. The current asymmetric reinforced-concrete bridge was built in 1928 by the Deval brothers, replacing a 17th-century predecessor. Its most striking feature is the slender pylon statue of Saint Genevieve, patron of Paris, by sculptor Paul Landowski, who also designed Rio's Christ the Redeemer. The saint stands raised on a pier, gazing protectively upstream. Today the southern bridgehead is also home to one of the most famous restaurants in Paris, La Tour d'Argent, with its view of Notre-Dame.
