St. Peter und Paul
Rain
Santi Marcellino e Pietro al Laterano is a Roman Catholic parish and titular church on the Via Merulana in Rome, constructed in 1751 in the baroque style. It is dedicated to the early Christian martyrs Marcellinus and Peter, executed under Emperor Diocletian around 304 AD. Their relics have rested here since 1256, making this one of Rome's longest-standing reliquary sites. As a titular church it is assigned to a cardinal in the tradition stretching back to early Christianity. Today it remains a quiet, little-visited parish away from the main tourist circuits, its baroque interior and reliquary chapel offering a contemplative counterpoint to Rome's more crowded landmark churches.
