Shuswap River

The Shuswap River is a 185-kilometre waterway draining roughly 5,200 km² of interior British Columbia's northeastern Okanagan Valley, connecting the Columbia Mountains highlands to Shuswap Lake and ultimately the South Thompson River. The river forms part of an important salmon migration corridor — each autumn, sockeye and kokanee push upstream in numbers that draw both anglers and wildlife watchers. For paddlers, the river offers a varied run mixing calm stretches with livelier current sections suited to kayakers and canoeists. Forested banks provide shaded walking routes and, in summer, accessible swimming spots popular with local families.
