Spiaggia di Positano Marina Grande

Marina Grande is the main beach of Positano, a narrow pebble strand nestled at the base of the town's dramatic cliff-side architecture on the Amalfi Coast. Positano's fame as a destination surged in the 1950s when writer John Steinbeck described it in Harper's Bazaar as 'a dream place that isn't quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone.' The beach is reached either by descending a long stairway through the town's alleyways or by ferry from Amalfi or Naples, making the boat approach one of the more scenic arrivals on the coast. In peak summer the strand fills quickly; the off-season offers considerably more calm, with sea views toward the Faraglioni-style cliffs and the possibility of hiring a boat to explore quieter coves nearby.
