Amager Strandpark

Amager Strandpark stretches along the eastern shore of the Danish island of Amager on the Øresund strait, sitting just five kilometres from Copenhagen's central Rådhuspladsen — making it the city's closest beach to downtown. The park's centrepiece is an artificial island completed in 2005, enclosing a 4.6-kilometre sandy shoreline that ranks as the largest beach in the Danish capital. Between the island and the mainland, a sheltered lagoon provides calm water for families and casual swimmers, while the seaward side serves windsurfers and kayakers on the open strait. Cycling paths run the length of the park, and clear-day views across the water towards the Swedish coast make it a year-round destination beyond the summer swimming season.
