St. Johannes

The cemetery chapel of St. Johannes der Täufer is a small Baroque place of worship adjoining the municipal cemetery in Lauingen, Swabia, built in 1673 and listed as a protected historic monument in Bavaria. Dedicated to John the Baptist, it belongs to the local Roman Catholic parish. Modest in scale and decoration, it is characteristic of the everyday sacred architecture of 17th-century Bavarian Swabia — less a pilgrimage destination than a quiet expression of the region's tradition of funerary devotion.
